Specialty Training
Some tasks require specialty training, outside the CERT Basic Training and routine monthly training. Only active AAACERT members may receive the specialty training below. We will notify members by email when this training is offered. Alternatively, you may email training@aaacert.org to express an interest in taking this training.
Emergency Operations Center Call Taker
Both Anne Arundel County and the City of Annapolis maintain Emergency Operations Centers (EOCs). The Office of Emergency Management Director or local government officials may, at their discretion, partially or fully activate these EOCs. AAACERT members receive training to serve as EOC Call Takers, answering questions from members of the public, and connecting community members to local government agencies that can facilitate solutions.
EOC trainers hold trainings periodically throughout the year. Training certification lasts for one year from last training or last activation, whichever is later. However, the EOCs may require refresher training for all trained members if operational procedures change.
Traffic Management
AAACERT members are trained to manage traffic safely in confined areas, such as parks and parking areas, and on lower speed (<45 MPH) roads. AAACERT members primarily perform traffic management in confined areas but may assist with traffic on secondary roads under the direct supervision of law enforcement. However, the principles learned for managing traffic on lower speed roads still apply. Training certification lasts for two years from last training.
Annapolis Parade Marshal
AAACERT members serve as Parade Marshals in the City of Annapolis. Parade Marshals assist with parade line-up and safety briefings/safety checks and march with the parades to ensure participant and public safety.
Training is typically held before the Military Bowl Parade (December) and again before the Memorial Day Parade (May). Training certification lasts for one year from the last training or last activation, whichever is later. However, the City of Annapolis may require refresher training for all trained members if operational procedures change.
